We have an elite team of coaches dedicated to helping you achieve your goal. Whether that goal is as simple as just learning to speed skate, beating your last time trial, or making it all the way to the Olympics, our coaches will help you along the way.
Nancy is a charter member of our club and currently coaches our more skilled skaters. She was a four-time Olympian (1976, 1980, 1984, and 1988) and now coaches skaters on a national level. She is currently coaching 2010 Olympians Nancy Swider-Peltz Jr. and Brian Hansen.
A lifelong skater, Jordan was a two-time Junior National medalist in figure skating and a recreational participant in both hockey and speed skating. He has been a Learn to Skate instructor and private coach for more than 12 years. He currently coaches figure skating for beginning skaters through elite-level athletes and is the Learn to Play Hockey coordinator at Oakton Ice Arena. In his spare time he enjoys any ice sport he can find, including curling, bandy, and broomball. He is Level 2 certified with US Speedskating.
Gary has skated for fun for years but started training and competing in 2008. He has been to many training camps around the country and is a U.S. Speedskating certified level 2 coach. He uses video feedback for skaters and can work with participants of all ages. Gary coached soccer for 14 years while his sons were playing in Park Ridge and enjoys biking in the forest preserves with his wife. When he is not skating he takes care of patients and teaches at Northwestern University Medical School where he also serves as Vice Chairman for Faculty Affairs for the Department of Medicine.
William has always enjoyed skating fast. After moving to Park Ridge in 2008, he was introduced to speed skating by his brother James. William skated with the club recreationally through high school and became a US Speedskating Level 1 coach in college. William has been with our Learn to Speed Skate Program since 2013 and has run it since 2014. When he’s not on the ice, William enjoys spending time outdoors boating, biking, and skiing. He is currently pursuing a double major in Business and Aerospace Engineering.
Jake (Minsuk) Song
Prior to Park Ridge, Coach Jake has been with Evanston Northshore Speedskating, in addition to working with more advanced skaters from our club and Northbrook. Jake brings over 10 years of speedskating experience from South Korea. He was a member of Seoul Junior National Short and Long track teams during his middle school & high school years, taking part in many competitions against national level skaters. He trained at Korean Sport University Ice Complex where many Korean Olympians trained alongside him. Jake is certified USS Level 1.
During his competitive years, Jake trained under coach Mungun Park, who is referred to as the "godfather of Korean speedskating." Park's most famous skater is probably Olympian Viktor Ahn (Ahn Hyun Soo).
